Expected Week of Childbirth Notification Letter
This Expected Week of Childbirth Notification Letter (EWC) is to be used by a pregnant employee who is now in a position to inform her employer of her EWC. The employer should be informed of this date at the employee’s earliest convenience, and at the very latest by the fifteenth week before the baby is due. It is important to note that the employer must know everything by the fifteenth week, including dates of maternity leave and maternity pay. This Expected Week of Childbirth Notification letter should be provided to the employee to help enable her to provide details of the EWC as soon as that date is known.
After the 21st week of pregnancy, your midwife or GP will present you with a MATB1 certificate. This certificate will confirm the expected date of childbirth. The MATB1 should be attached to this Notification Letter as official confirmation of the date for your employer.
