Employee's Breastfeeding Notification Letter

This Breastfeeding Notification Letter allows an employee to tell her employer that she will be breastfeeding her child while at work. She is required to give written notice of this to her employer, and the letter should be sent even if she will not actually be breastfeeding while at work.

Employer's duties

Employers are required to provide a suitable area for a breastfeeding employee to rest. It is recommended, though not itself a legal requirement, that facilities are also provided for expressing and storing milk safely. This area should be healthy and clean. Under no circumstances should a mother be required to express milk in the toilet facilities.

Upon receiving this letter, the employer should carry out a risk assessment to make sure that any risks to the mother or child are removed.
