Board Minutes - Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) Approval of a Business Continuity Plan
Trustees of a charitable incorporated organisation (CIO) are tasked with the management and control of the business, operations and activities of their charity. This includes planning how it should maintain its business, operation and activities following an incident, event or emergency.
Any number of events can bring a charity’s business, operations or activities to a grinding halt - flood, fire, illness, power failure, break-in, vandalism etc. Business Continuity Planning is about identifying those parts of the charity organisation that cannot afford to be lost and planning how to maintain these if an incident (large or small) occurs.
These board minutes recognise the importance of putting in place a Business Continuity Plan (BCP) and approving its implementation by a CIO. Having board minutes that allow the trustees to acknowledge the importance of a BCP and having a written record of their actions in its implementation ensures that the trustees are meeting their trustees’ duties and obligations.
A BCP must always be appropriate to the specific charity organisation in question and the level of detail these board minutes include will depend on the individual charity's needs.
These board minutes are in open format. The requisite details should be inserted into the highlighted fields or the wording can be adjusted to suit your purposes. Wording in square brackets is optional. If it is required, then the brackets should be deleted and the wording within them retained. If the wording is not required, then it can be deleted.
