Political Activity in the Workplace
This policy on Political Activity in the Workplace is intended to set down expectations and establish a clear code of conduct in respect of employees' political activity in the workplace.
There is no qualifying period for unfair dismissal claims when the alleged reason for dismissal is the employee's political opinions or affiliations. Employers must, therefore, be particularly careful when considering dismissing or taking disciplinary action on the basis of an employee’s political affiliations, even if they may seem offensive.
This policy advises employees that employees must not engage in political activities at work and specifies what the prohibited activities are. Finally, the policy warns employees that breaches of the policy will be dealt with by disciplinary action up to, and including, dismissal.
