Flexible Working Rejection
This Flexible Working Rejection is for use by employers to follow on from a meeting with an employee regarding their change to a flexible working pattern. This letter should only be used if the employer is rejecting the employee’s request and any alternatives that were raised at the meeting with the employee.
When rejecting a request for flexible working the employer must write to the employee within 14 days of the meeting. The employer must set out the business grounds on which the request has been rejected. Furthermore, the reasons for such grounds applying must be stated. If any alternatives were raised at the meeting with the employer, the refusal of those must also be explained.
If the employee’s original request is not acceptable but an alternative raised at the meeting is, the employer should not use this letter and should instead use the Flexible Working Decision letter.
The employee has a right to appeal this decision and must do so in writing within 14 days of receiving notification of rejection. Please refer to the Flexible Working Appeal for more information.
