Non-Domestic MEES Checklist
This Non-Domestic MEES Checklist – can be used as a guide to assist with the compliance of the current requirement for all tenanted non-domestic properties to have energy ratings of at least an E by 1 April 2023. The checklist assumes that the property is not exempt from obtaining an EPC.
The checklist contains dropdown lists to identify potential next steps from obtaining an EPC, through to carrying out works and prompts for registering exemptions. It can also be used to help prompt landlords and managing agents about whether to consider future-proofing in view of anticipated further increases in EPC ratings currently proposed by the Government. These are expected to be for all tenanted commercial properties C+ by 1 April 2027 and B+ by 1 April 2030, although this is not yet legislated.
The checklist does not substitute the need for appropriate legal advice which is recommended. Guidance on the MEES Regulations, exemptions and requirements for non-domestic premises can be found at www.gov.uk.
