Part-time Employment Contract
The Part-time Employment Contract – does exactly what it says on the tin!
Employers must provide workers and employees with a written
statement of their main terms and conditions of employment and this is often
known as a Standard Form Section One Statement.
This Part-time Employment Contract covers the
requirements of a Standard Form Section One Statement. From 6 April 2020, there
are new rules on what must be included in a written statement for new
starters and pre-existing employees will be able to request a
written statement that complies with the new rules. This contract complies with these
requirements and must be provided to the employee or worker by day one of
Many employers have positions that do not require the employee to work 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, or wish to retain skilled workers who want or need to reduce their working hours. Likewise, many employees can see the benefit in working fewer hours a day or week because of family responsibilities or in order to pursue social or recreational pursuits.
This contract is for use when the employee is working agreed hours on fixed days in a week. If the employee is employed on a more flexible basis, please see the Zero Hours or Casual Worker contracts.
This contract takes into account the requirement to provide part time workers with the same rates of pay and benefits as full time workers on a pro rata basis.
The Working Time Regulations 1998 state that workers whose working day is six hours or longer must be granted a rest break during the working day of at least 20 minutes. This contract offers alternative clauses depending on whether or not the employee is entitled to a rest break.
The “Duties” clause allows you to state the duties and responsibilities of the role. Alternatively, you can just state that the duties and responsibilities are ‘as determined by the Company from time to time’ - or simply refer to a separate ‘Job Description’.
