Veterinary Surgery Terms of Business
This document has been updated for Brexit. References to the GDPR have been removed in favour of a simpler cross-reference to a Privacy Policy. A range of Privacy Policy templates is available in our UK GDPR and Data Protection group.
These Veterinary Surgery Terms of Business is designed for use by vets dealing primarily with domestic animals and pets and cover key aspects of a surgery’s business, ranging from the booking of appointments to the provision of treatment, the keeping of associated documents and records, and the payment of fees by customers.
A number of optional elements appear throughout this document. These generally refer to additional, “value-added” services which your practice may or may not provide such as a walk-in clinic, call-out visits, assistance with pet insurance claims, and pet-owners’ rights to request documents held by the surgery regarding their pets.
Payment under these terms is set out with reference to a separate price list, thus allowing complete flexibility with regard to pricing.
Broad reference to some key laws, rules and regulations governing the provision of veterinary care is incorporated in reference to treatment. Users of this document should be aware that laws may change from time to time and should ensure that this clause is kept up-to-date accordingly.
Optional phrases / clauses are enclosed in square brackets. These should be read carefully and selected so as to be compatible with one another. Unused options should be removed from the document.
This template should be used only where the surgery’s customer is a “consumer” as defined in the Consumer Rights Act 2015 (i.e. an individual who receives services for his/her personal use - for the benefit his/her animal in this case - and for purposes wholly or mainly outside the purposes of any business of that individual or another). The terms are suitable for use where the contract is an “on premises”, “off premises” or “distance” contract as defined in the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013. The Regulations require you to supply certain information to customers who are consumers before they make an appointment or arrange treatment. Where the contract is an “off premises” or “distance” contract, the Regulations also confer on the customer certain rights to cancel their appointment or that arrangement, and we have set these out in the terms themselves.
This template duplicates the Veterinary Surgery Terms and Conditions available in Terms and Conditions > Services Terms and Conditions Templates.
If the veterinary services are to be provided online rather than face to face, you should instead use the Website Terms of Sale - Online Veterinary Services (B2C) template in our Online Professional Services Website Terms of Sale (B2C) subfolder.
