Voluntary Redundancy Policy
This Voluntary Redundancy Policy sets down a non-contractual framework for managing voluntary redundancies in the workforce, when the employer needs to implement redundancies.
When there is a genuine redundancy situation, an employer may invite employees to volunteer for redundancy. It is not a legal requirement for employers to ask for volunteers, but it is considered to be good practice. This template policy makes clear that there is no obligation on the employer to accept an application for voluntary redundancy.
In deciding which applications for voluntary redundancy should be accepted, employers should be careful that their decisions are neutral in respect of such matters as sex, sexual orientation, pregnancy and maternity, marriage and civil partnership, gender reassignment, race, disability, religion or belief and age.
This Voluntary Redundancy Policy includes the following sections:
- Introduction
- Process
- Selection for Voluntary Redundancy
- Acceptance of an Application for Voluntary Redundancy
Optional phrases/clauses are enclosed in square brackets. These should be read carefully and selected so as to be compatible with one another. Unused options should be removed from the document.
