Data Subject Rights Letter – Acknowledgement + Fee Request
Data protection law in the UK, comprising principally of the GDPR and the
Data Protection Act 2018, provides a range of rights for individuals (“data
subjects”) designed to help protect their personal data as well as their
own rights, interests, and freedoms.
This letter is designed for general use as a first response to a request
from a data subject to exercise their rights. Its wording is open and does
not refer to a specific right. In some cases, if the request is “manifestly
unfounded” or “excessive”, you may be able to charge a fee to cover the
administration costs of responding. This letter requests a fee, explains
why you are requesting it, and explains that the time limit for your
response to the request will not begin until the fee is received.
Optional phrases / clauses are enclosed in square brackets. These should be
read carefully and selected so as to be compatible with one another. Unused
options should be removed from the document.
