Data Subject Rights Letter – Acknowledgement + ID Request
Data protection law in the UK, comprising principally of the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018, provides a range of rights for individuals (“data subjects”) designed to help protect their personal data as well as their own rights, interests, and freedoms.
This letter is designed for general use as a first response to a request from a data subject to exercise their rights. Its wording is open and does not refer to a specific right. In some cases, if you have cause to doubt the identity of the individual making the request, it may be appropriate to request confirmation of their identity. This letter is designed for that purpose and should also be used to explain why. As such, it also informs the recipient that the time limit for responding to the request does not begin until such confirmation is received.
Optional phrases / clauses are enclosed in square brackets. These should be read carefully and selected so as to be compatible with one another. Unused options should be removed from the document.
