Performance Improvement Plan – Example
The Performance Improvement Plan – Example is a worked example of a formal Performance Improvement Plan (PIP). It shows how performance issues, objectives and timescales for improvement can be set out for an employee who is not performing at the required level for their role.
This version of the PIP gives examples of how to complete the form.
Agreeing achievable performance objectives
The objectives in the PIP must be agreed with the employee and should be achievable and time-bound. The manager and employee should also agree any support that may be required to achieve these objectives, such as formal training, online training or work shadowing.
Employers who need a blank template can use the Performance Improvement Plan (PIP).
Setting realistic timescales and review meetings
The duration of the PIP will depend on the individual situation, but any timescales must be realistic and include regular review meetings to monitor progress towards agreed objectives.
Using the example with the wider performance procedure
This worked example can be read alongside the Performance Management Review Procedure, which sets out the wider informal and formal process for managing poor performance.
