Stability of Work Equipment
The employer must ensure that work equipment, or any part of it, is stabilised by clamping or otherwise where necessary for health and safety purposes.
This requirement applies to any work equipment which might fall over, collapse, overturn, shake or move dangerously, or otherwise become hazardous unless suitable precautions are taken to fix, stabilise, tie, fasten or clamp them in some way. Such equipment includes:
- fixed work equipment (such as machines that need to be bolted to the ground or racking that needs to be fixed firmly to a wall);
- mobile work equipment (such as tractors needing counterbalance weights for certain types of work);
- other work equipment (such as ladders which need to be tied and footed in each new working position).
