High or Very Low Temperature in Work Equipment
The employer must ensure that work equipment is protected so as to prevent personal injury by burn, scald or sear from the high or very low temperature of:
- work equipment or parts of work equipment;
- any article or substance produced, used or stored in work equipment.
The employer should note that the risks must be tackled by engineering methods rather than by protecting the individual. However, for certain equipment (such as cooker hot plates) and certain contents of equipment (such as boiling water to be poured from a kettle), protection by way of ensuring the competence of users may be the only feasible measure.
