Equipment Control Systems
A control system is a system or device which responds to input signals and generates an output signal which causes the equipment under control to operate in a particular manner.
The employer must ensure, so far as is reasonably practicable, that all equipment control systems are safe.
In addition to any other measures taken to ensure the safety of any equipment control system, the employer must ensure that:
- the operation of any equipment control system does not create any increased risk to health or safety;
- so far as is reasonably practicable, the equipment control system is fail-safe;
- the equipment control system does not impede the operation of any stop and emergency stop control.
