This Parental Leave Policy is designed for use by employers to ensure that
they provide their employees with all of the rights to which they are
entitled by law, and if necessary exceed them. This policy complies fully
with all current UK law.
Eligible employees are entitled to 18 weeks of unpaid leave to care for
their child if the employee is the birth or adoptive parent of a child who
is under 18 years of age. This is a right for which both mothers and
fathers are eligible.
Employees may not take ordinary parental leave in blocks of less than one
week (except in relation to a child who is disabled) and may not take more
than four weeks' leave in respect of any individual child in any year.
Shared Parental Leave is not addressed in this policy. Please see the
