This Flexible Working Decision (Approved on Trial Basis) is designed for use by an employer in approving on a trial basis a parent or guardian’s request for more flexible working arrangements in order to care for a new baby or a child that they have been matched with for adoption. Agreeing to the use of a trial period enables employers to establish if the new flexible working pattern requested by the employee will work in practice.

This letter warns the employee that the offer to work flexibly has been agreed on a temporary basis only and the employer cannot guarantee to continue with the arrangement at the end of the trial period.
