Letter Accepting Request for Carer's Leave
Carer’s leave gives employees the right to take up to one week’s unpaid leave in a rolling 12-month period to provide care or assist someone who is dependent on them and who has a long-term care need. This is a right that applies from day one of employment.
This letter should be used to accept an employee’s request for carer’s leave. There are optional clauses that can be used depending on whether or not the care’s leave is paid or unpaid or the employee has exhausted their entitlement to carer’s leave.
Employers cannot deny an employee’s request for carer’s leave but can postpone it if they reasonably consider that the operation of the business would be unduly disrupted if the leave was approved. There are separate letters which can be used if the employer wishes to postpone or decline a request for carer’s leave (e.g. if the employee has already used up their entitlement to carer’s leave or does not meet the eligibility requirement for carer’s leave).
