Letter Postponing Request for Carer's Leave
Carer’s leave gives employees the right to take up to one week’s unpaid leave in a rolling 12-month period to provide care or assist someone who is dependent on them and who has a long-term care need. This is a right that applies from day one of employment.
This letter should be used to postpone an employee’s request for carer’s leave. An employer can postpone an employee’s request for carer’s leave if the request would cause undue disruption to the Company. In these circumstances, the carer’s leave can be postponed for up to one month and the new period of carer’s leave must be the same length as the original request. The new dates for carer’s leave must be agreed with the employee.
Employers should be aware that the employee has the right to complain to a tribunal if the employee feels the postponement is unreasonable.
