Internship Employment Contract
This Internship Employment Contract is for use where the intern is not work-shadowing and is, in effect, engaged as a fixed-term employee.
Fixed-term protections and early termination
Fixed-term employees have the same minimum rights as permanent workers and are protected by the Fixed-Term Employees (Prevention of Less Favourable Treatment) Regulations 2002.
This contract includes a clause allowing the employer to end the fixed-term contract early, helping to avoid a potential claim for damages equivalent to the pay and benefits the fixed-term worker would otherwise have received up to the agreed end date.
Workplace pension auto-enrolment
Note that the intern may also be eligible to be auto-enrolled in the workplace pension scheme if they:
- are aged between 22 and State Pension age
- earn more than £10,000 a year
- work in the UK
What the contract covers
- Duties/job title, fixed-term arrangements and commencement/continuous employment date
- Hours of work, place of work and remuneration
- Holidays, sickness absence and pension
- Collective agreements, grievance and disciplinary procedure, and staff handbook/employment policies
- Confidential information, data protection and governing law
