Self-Employed Health and Safety Statement of Intent
This is the template Statement of Intent for a sole trader/self-employed business person.
The statement of intent is where the self-employed person confirms that the business will be compliant with health and safety rules and regulations. It details that the business will ensure the safety of anybody who works for it, anybody the business works for, as well as anybody else who may be affected by the business’s work activities, such as customers or people passing by.
This Self-Employed Health and Safety Statement has been written to comply with the requirements of the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 which sets out health and safety duties for self-employed persons.
This Self-Employed Statement forms part of the full health and safety policy package but is often used as a stand-alone document to send to companies the business may wish to work for.
If the business has 5 or more employees there must also be a written Health and Safety Policy in addition to the Statement.
Once signed, it is recommended that the SOI is scanned, so that it can be sent to any clients if requested.
