This is a Statement of Intent template for a Company.

The statement of intent is where the business owner confirms that the business will be compliant with health and safety rules and regulations. It details that the business will ensure the safety of anybody who works for it, anybody the business works for, as well as anybody else who may be affected by the business’s work activities, such as customers or people passing by. 

This Statement of Intent has been written to comply with the requirements of the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 which sets out employers’ health and safety duties.

It is recommended that this document is signed by the most senior person(s) in the business - usually the business owner(s), and then it should be prominently displayed within the business premises. 

This Company Statement of Intent forms part of the full health and safety policy package but is often used as a stand-alone document to send to companies the business may wish to work for. Once signed, it is recommended that the SOI is scanned, so that it can be sent to any clients if requested. 

If the business has 5 or more employees it must also have a written Health and Safety Policy in addition to the Statement.
