PSC Checklist

Since 6th April 2016, UK incorporated companies, UK LLPs and UK Societates have had to collect and keep information about people with significant control over them. This used to be kept in an individual register by the entity itself, however from 18th November 2025, this requirement has been abolished. Companies House now holds a PSC register for each entity with strict reporting requirements. 

This PSC Checklist provides a broad overview of the key questions that companies need to consider when complying with the regime. The checklist aims to provide an overview of the regime in one place, with the action that needs to be taken as well as the most appropriate resources to use to comply with the regime.

This checklist has been updated as of 18th November 2025, to incorporate the changes introduced into the Companies Act 2006 by the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act 2023 (ECCTA). The changes introduced by the ECCTA have, amongst other things, abolished the statutory PSC register and introduced identity verification for PSCs. A PSC register cannot be left blank. Any change to a company's PSCs must be reported to Companies House within 14 days of a confirmed change occurring. 

This checklist is designed to complement the Government’s guidance on the regime. The Government’s guidance is freely available at www.gov.uk and is extremely comprehensive. Companies (& LLPs) with complex structures may also need to consider seeking independent legal advice. This template has been drafted with a focus on the issues relevant to SME private companies.
