Food Allergen Notification Requirements For Food Business Operators
This subfolder contains an allergen policy, guidance notes and forms to assist food business operators in complying with the regulations applicable to food and drink allergen labelling and notification. These documents are relevant to food business operators who provide food and drink to consumers sold prepacked, non-prepacked or prepacked for direct sale.
Allergen labelling Regulations affect businesses that supply food or drinks to consumers. The Regulations are: EU Food Information for Consumers Regulation (No. 1169/2011) (FIC) and Food Information Regulations 2014 (SI 2014/1855) (FIR).
The Guidance Notes provide information on the fourteen listed allergen groups that need to be declared to the consumer if present in foods or drinks and detail what suppliers of both prepacked food and non-prepacked food need to do and what procedures they should put in place to facilitate compliance with the Regulations.
The Allergen Notification Policy is accompanied by two useful forms for the management of the allergen notification processes and procedures.
Failure to comply with the Regulations is a criminal offence and can result in a fine and criminal prosecution.
