Maintenance of Fire Precautions

For premises covered by the Fire Precautions (Workplace) Regulations1997, any equipment or devices provided to meet any of the requirements must, where necessary to protect the safety of employees in case of fire, be:

• subject to a suitable system of maintenance; and

• maintained in an efficient state, in efficient working order and in good repair.

As regards other equipment or devices needed in fire precautions, such as for fire prevention, similar maintenance requirements are contained in Health and Safety at Work legislation.
