Confirmation of Identity Verification (Existing Directors) - Letter from a director to a company 
This letter confirms that an existing director of the company has either been successfully identity verified (IDV) or will complete the process. This may be useful because companies are under an obligation to ensure that an individual does not act as a director unless their identity has been successfully verified (section 167M(2) Companies Act 2006).

For existing company directors, there is a 12-month transition period for compliance, tied to the timing of a company’s annual confirmation statement. This means the time available for existing directors to verify their identity may vary significantly depending on the date the company’s confirmation statement is due.
Companies House is encouraging all directors to verify their identity as soon as possible to avoid delays.
Use this letter to record a director’s acknowledgement and commitment to complete IDV
The letter provides comfort to the company that the director understands the importance of IDV and will undertake and complete the process in a timely manner. IDV is personal to the director, and a Companies House personal code will be issued to the director once they have successfully completed IDV.
How IDV fits within the ECCTA reforms
The introduction of the IDV regime is one of the key changes to UK company law under the Economic Crime & Corporate Transparency Act 2023 (ECCTA). Directors must be ID verified to act under the provisions of the ECCTA and there will be potential civil and criminal penalties for failure to do so. IDV applies to directors irrespective of their nationality or where they are resident.
The ECCTA gives Companies House new and enhanced powers to help disrupt economic crime and the IDV regime is a key component of this.
