Extension of Probationary Period Letter (Coronavirus)

EMP.CVP.01

The Government's Coronavirus (COVID-19) Job Retention Scheme ended on 30 September 2021. The Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme Furlough Leave Agreement ( available here ) and the Flexible Furlough Agreement Letter ( available here ) and other CJRS related templates are now available for reference purposes only.

This Extension of Probationary Period Letter (Coronavirus) is sent by the employer to confirm to the employee that the Probationary Period in the employee’s Contract of Employment is to be extended for a further period because of the coronavirus outbreak.

The letter states that the employee’s probationary period will be extended because the employer has not had an option to assess the employee’s performance. This could be because the employee:

  • is on sick leave;
  • is self-isolating or self-shielding;
  • has been placed on furlough leave; or
  • is working from home.

The letter has an optional clause stating that this is the only reason for the extension of the probationary period.
