The Government's Coronavirus (COVID-19) Job Retention Scheme ended on 30 September 2021. The purpose of the extended CJRS was that employees could be furloughed if employers were unable to operate or had no work for employees to do because of coronavirus.

In order to qualify for the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme, employers needed to:

• Designate affected employees as ‘furloughed workers’, and notify employees of this change; and

• Submit information to HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) about the employees that have been furloughed and their earnings through the online portal.
