Asbestos Containing Materials (ACM) Risk Assessment Form

As a ‘Duty Holder’ under the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 you are required to keep an up to date register of the location and condition of any Asbestos Containing Materials (ACM’s) in your building. This Asbestos Risk Assessment Form is for you to use to assess the risks from exposure to asbestos in your premises or during a task where people are working near any ACM’s. It has been set out using the same style of template as other risk assessments for ease of use.

This Asbestos Risk Assessment Form replaces our Asbestos (ACM) Control Sheet providing an updated and more straightforward document. This document is an alternative to the Asbestos (ACM) Location and Condition Register for those who prefer to use the risk assessment format.

Despite asbestos not having been installed since 1999, many buildings will still have some ACM in them. This Asbestos Risk Assessment Form will show where these materials may be as well as their condition and the likelihood of them being disturbed.

There is no requirement for you to have ACMs removed as a matter of course. Your risk assessment will dictate whether any damaged material can be covered, isolated or removed.

If you are in any doubt as to the extent of ACMs, you should seek a professional survey/inspection.

This document allows you to record information on where the ACM is, its condition, how likely it is to be damaged by moving machinery and what controls you have in place to prevent damage.

Do not break or damage suspected ACM material to try to identify it. Sampling should be carried out by a competent person with appropriate asbestos training, equipment and controls. An asbestos work licence is not required for every sampling task; the licensing requirements depend on the work and the risk of exposure.
