Many individuals recover from COVID infection quickly but, for some, recovery can take much longer. The symptoms can potentially last for weeks or months. Such individuals are said to be suffering from long COVID.
Given that 65% of long COVID sufferers reported that their symptoms adversely affected their ability to carry out day-to-day activities, long COVID is likely to result in an increase in sickness absence levels and have an impact on the ability of employees to carry out their jobs.
This Long COVID Policy outlines the procedures to be followed by employers in handling time off work where the reason for this absence is long COVID.
