This is the Statement of Intent for a Small Business - sometimes known as an SME or micro business. 

The statement of intent is where the business owner confirms that the business will be compliant with health and safety rules and regulations.  It details that the business will ensure the safety of anybody who works for it, anybody the business works for, as well as anybody else who may be affected by the business’s work activities, such as customers or people passing by. 

This Micro Business Statement forms part of the full health and safety policy package but is often used as a stand-alone document to send to companies the business may wish to work for. 

It is recommended that the business owner signs the document as it shows everybody within the business that the business intends to be compliant with health and safety law.

If the business has 5 or more employees you must also have a written Health and Safety Policy in addition to the Statement.

This statement has been written to comply with the requirements of the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 which sets out employers’ health and safety duties.

Once signed, it is recommended that the SOI is scanned, so that it can be sent to any clients if requested.
