Harassment and Bullying at Work Prevention: Guidance Notes for Employees
These Guidance Notes for Employees: Harassment and Bullying at Work provide advice to employees on the informal steps that can be taken to tackle harassment in the workplace and on the steps that can be taken to assist any possible future formal grievance that may arise from the harassment or bullying.
With effect from October 2024, employers will be legally required to take reasonable steps to prevent sexual harassment of their employees. Employment tribunals will have the power to increase employment compensation by up to 25% if they find an employer has breached this duty.
These notes are to be used in conjunction with the Harassment and Bullying Policy and/or the Prevention of Sexual Harassment Policy. These policies are the key documents, setting out what the company expects from its employees, its commitment to protect them from harassment and bullying and the relevant procedure. Taken together with these policies, these guidance notes for employees will help employers to demonstrate that they are taking reasonable steps to prevent harassment in the workplace.
