Guidance Note: Change of Company Name


This guidance note provides a broad overview of the legal regime as it relates to company names and particularly the process in force to change a company’s registered name.

The guidance considers:

  • the restrictions in place on company name choice (both on incorporation and any subsequent name change);
  • the procedure in place to change a company’s name in accordance with the Companies Act 2006; and
  • when the name change becomes effective as well as what a company needs to do following a name change, for example, updating its stationery and website.
