This Home Working Policy has been updated to provide for temporary
arrangements to meet the current circumstances re. COVID-19. It is for use
by employers who wish to offer home working to their employees as a mode of
Employees with at least 26 weeks of continuous service now have the
statutory right to request their employer to consider flexible working
arrangements. Employers should ensure that they are prepared to properly
consider any such requests. This policy can be used by an employer as part
of their preparation for dealing with flexible working requests.
Working from home offers a number of potential benefits both to employers
and employees alike, including increased employee satisfaction, better
staff retention, and potential cost savings on office space and
recruitment. This Home Working Policy, whilst designed to work alongside a
Flexible Working Policy, is equally applicable to those employees who have
the statutory right to ask, as it is to those who do not have the statutory
The policy operates on the principle that any request to work from home
will only be approved if it is mutually beneficial, that is that the
