Business Rates
Small businesses are often eligible for business rate relief (i.e. a discount on the standard rate) under the Small Business Rates Relief scheme (SBRR). Eligibility depends on the rateable value of the premises and whether they are the only premises of the business. Relief can be up to 100% in some cases.
In certain circumstances, businesses starting up in, or moving to, an Enterprise Zone may obtain relief. Relief may be available if it is a rural business. Charities and Community Amateur Sports Clubs can also get business rate relief. Certain types of buildings or land may also qualify for relief. In some cases, a business might qualify for hardship relief.
Your local council can advise you about whether relief is available, and if so, what level of relief you can claim.
