Non-registered Protection
If your product does not qualify for design registration, design right protection may apply to any other design except one of a purely routine nature. This protection arises automatically once the design has been created and recorded in some permanent form. Properly documenting the particulars of the creation of the design will be necessary, including who, where and when. Similar principles apply as to the protection of the topography of semi-conductor chips.
As to printed matter and works of artistic craftsmanship, copyright protection may be available instead.
If you wish to consider international design protection, you will need to seek guidacne about design protection in each relevant country.
