Workstations and Seating in the Workplace.

Workstations and Seating

The arrangement of any indoor or outdoor workstation must be suitable for the worker and the work. In addition, the arrangement of any outdoor workstation must:

  • ensure that anyone at the workstation is unlikely to slip or fall;
  • enable anyone at the workstation to leave or be assisted in an emergency;
  • so far as is reasonably practicable, provide protection from adverse weather.

    Moreover, for any indoor or outdoor workstation where the work can or must be done sitting, a seat must be provided that is suitable for the worker and the work and a suitable footrest must be provided where necessary.

    The workstation should be arranged so that the worker is as a suitable height in relation to the work surface and so that tasks can be carried out safely and comfortably.

    The workstation, including seating and access to the workstation, should be suitable for any special needs of the individual worker, including workers with disabilities.
