Chemical and Hazardous Substances - COSHH Documents
If chemicals and other hazardous substances are used by your business, employees’ and others health can be exposed to risk of sustaining injuries or diseases such as asthma, dermatitis or cancer. The Control Of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) Regulations 2002 (as amended) were created to ensure that any harmful effects are minimised.
Whether you are an employer with your own premises, or you are a contractor who goes to other premises, you have duties under COSHH. If you expose anyone to any substance you need to carry out a COSHH Risk Assessment which will include utilising the information provided by the substance manufacturer on the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS). You may also need to set up a health surveillance programme to monitor the effects on your employees.
This Chemical and Hazardous Substances folder contains a template COSHH Risk Assessment and a Guidance Note on how to use a Material Safety Data Sheet to do a COSHH Risk Assessment to help you implement the right level of chemical and hazardous substances control at your workplace. Use COSHH documents to make sure that your business is compliant with the Regulations and that your workplace is made safer.
