Environmental Management System Guidance Notes

HS.GN.01

These Guidance Notes have been written to help you create an Environmental Management System (EMS) for your organisation. An EMS is a set of tools to aid you in managing, reducing or preventing negative environmental impact in your business.

The EMS Guidance Notes explain what an EMS is, assisting in the identification of the environmental impact of your business and the development of environmental objectives. The Guidance Notes also include a partially worked example Process Flow Chart and explain how to complete EMS Risk Assessments.

Having an Environmental Policy that is backed up by an EMS can be highly beneficial to any organisation. Being seen to be ‘green’ will certainly help in some industry sectors but actually being proactive in reducing your consumption of resources and working to prevent any harm to the environment can also save you money.
