Once the employer has been informed in writing by an employee of her current or immediate past pregnancy, the employer has a legal obligation under R16 of the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 to take all reasonable precautions to ensure the safety of the expectant or new mother and baby whilst in their employment.

This New Mother or Expectant Mother letter template confirms the details provided by the new/expectant mother and suggests that the mother consults with her GP to ascertain if any changes are required to her work activities. This information should then be used in conjunction with the New Mother or Expectant Mother Risk Assessment form.
