Environmental Policies
This month, Simply-docs has created two new Environmental Policies for those working in the automotive industry and hotel or catering. The Environmental Policy Statement - Automotive would typically be applicable for a garage or car repair shop. These two new policies join the three existing Environmental Policy Statements for Office/Retail, Manufacturing and Construction. Each of the five Environmental Policies is similar but all contain specific clauses relevant to the particular industry and can be further tailored to suit your organisation.
An Environmental Policy is your company’s written commitment to both the people within your organisation and to your customers and suppliers. It confirms the company's commitment to continuous improvement in managing environmental issues, including the proper management and monitoring of waste, the reduction of pollution and emissions, compliance with environmental legislation and environmental codes of practice, training for staff, and the monitoring of environmental performance.
Some of the many Environmental Regulations include:-
• Waste (England and Wales) Regulations 2011
• The Hazardous Waste (England and Wales) Regulations 2005
• Environmental Protection (Duty of Care) Regulations 1991
• The Environment Act 1990,
• The Control of Pollution (Amendment) Act 1989
Although there is not a specific legal requirement to have an environmental policy, it is good business practice for all companies to demonstrate a commitment to the environment as an integral part of their day to day activities. Indeed, having such an environmental policy may form part of application for ISO 14001 certification or registration under the EMAS scheme.
