Offices and Industrial Premises in England

Offices and Industrial Premises in England

From 1 September 2020, premises previously in use class B1 in England fall within the new class E. Classes B2 and B8 are unchanged.

Use of premises as an office, for research or light industrial use

Use of commercial premises as offices, for research or for light industrial uses (suitable to a residential area) falls within use class E(g).

Use of premises for other industrials or warehouse uses

Industrial uses not covered by class E(g) fall within class B2. Class B8 covers use for storage and distribution.

Can I change the permitted use?

Certain changes of use of class E(g) and B premises do not require planning permission (subject to certain conditions being complied with). Please refer to https://www.planningportal.co.uk/ or consult your local authority for further information.
