Offices and Industrial Premises in England
From 1 September 2020, premises previously in use class B1 in England fall
within the new class E. Classes B2 and B8 are unchanged.
Use of premises as an office, for research or light industrial use
Use of commercial premises as offices, for research or for light industrial
uses (suitable to a residential area) falls within use class E(g).
Use of premises for other industrials or warehouse uses
Industrial uses not covered by class E(g) fall within class B2. Class B8
covers use for storage and distribution.
Can I change the permitted use?
Certain changes of use of class E(g) and B premises do not require planning
permission (subject to certain conditions being complied with). Please
