Voluntary Modern Slavery Statement (Turnover under £36 million)

This Voluntary Modern Slavery Statement lets a business with a turnover under £36 million set out what it does about slavery and human trafficking, so it can answer its customers’ supply chain questions.

Why smaller businesses publish a voluntary statement

Under section 54 of the Modern Slavery Act 2015, a business with a total turnover (including the turnover of any subsidiaries) of less than £36 million does not have to prepare a slavery and human trafficking statement.

Many smaller businesses choose to make one, because customers who must publish a statement may ask their suppliers what they do about slavery and human trafficking in their business and supply chains.

What the statement covers

Commitment and findings. It sets out the business’s commitment to tackling slavery and human trafficking and what it has found in its own business and its supply chain, to the best of its knowledge and belief.

Business and supply chain. It describes the business structure, the countries it operates in, its supply chain and whether that supply chain is in a higher-risk sector.

Responsibility and sign-off. It names who in the business is responsible for these matters. It includes notes on completing it and a sign-off by the board and a director (or, for a business that is not a company, by the owner or a partner).

If your turnover is £36 million or more

A company, LLP or other body corporate, or a partnership, that supplies goods or services, carries on business in the UK and has a total turnover (including the turnover of any subsidiaries) of £36 million or more must prepare a statement for each financial year.
