COSHH Documents - Control of Substances Hazardous to Health

October 2013
This month Simply-Docs has reviewed and improved its sub folder dealing with the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (more often known and referred to as COSHH). If your business uses chemicals or other hazardous substances then you need to be familiar with The Control Of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) Regulations 2002 (as amended). The intention of these Regulations is to prevent any harmful effects on employees or others who may be exposed to such hazardous substances in the workplace.

Whether you are an employer with your own premises, or you are a contractor who goes to other premises you have duties under COSHH. If you expose anyone to any substance you need to carry out a COSHH Risk Assessment. Our new COSHH Risk Assessment form uses the easy to follow format used by all the other risk assessments we offer.

To accompany the COSHH Risk Assessment we have a new Guidance Note explaining how to read and use the information from a Material Safety Data Sheet or MSDS. A MSDS is the document provided by the product supplier that describes what hazards are associated with the chemical product concerned, it also includes information on handling, storage and emergency measures in case of an accident. Interpreting the information in a MSDS for the first time can be daunting so our new Guidance Note shows clearly what the sections mean and how they relate to the new COSHH Risk Assessment form.

Our COSHH documents should assist your business in its compliance with the COSHH Regulations and used correctly should make your workplace a safer place to be.
