Staff training
Training is an important component of AML compliance.
Employees should understand how money laundering occurs, recognise warning signs and know how to escalate concerns internally. (See under “Policies, procedures and controls” above for template policies.)
Examples of suspicious indicators may include:
- unusual payment arrangements.
- reluctance to provide identification documents.
- complex ownership structures without obvious commercial justification.
- transactions that appear inconsistent with a customer's known activities.
Training helps ensure that businesses can identify potential issues before becoming involved in criminal conduct.
