Keeping In Touch Days Request Letter

EMP.MAT.06

This Keeping In Touch Days Request letter allows an employee on maternity leave to make contact with her employer regarding a keeping in touch day.

Keeping In Touch Days (“KIT days") allow employees on maternity leave to return to work during their leave. This must be agreed between the employer and the employee. An employee may be permitted to take up to 10 KIT days in total. Work undertaken on a KIT day need not be limited to the employee’s normal duties and can include training and other events.

Any work carried out on any KIT day shall, by law, constitute a day’s work.

The employer cannot require the employee to take KIT days, nor can they penalise the employee for not taking any. Similarly, the employer is not obliged to offer such days.

For a similar letter designed for use by the employer to offer KIT days or to inform the employee of events that they may wish to attend during their leave, please see the related document links below.
