Additional Duty for Engineering Controls
The employer must ensure that thorough examinations and tests are carried out of Engineering Controls provided under the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) Regulations as follows:
1. at intervals specified in Schedule 3 of the COSHH Regulations where local exhaust ventilation plant is used as an engineering control with a process identified in that Schedule. Depending on the process (the requirements range from continuous to every 6 months);
2. every 14 months in other cases where local exhaust ventilation is used as an engineering control; and
3. at suitable intervals for other engineering controls.
