Work Equipment: Other Restrictions

Other Restrictions

Restrictions on Maintenance Personnel

The employer must restrict to specifically trained and designated persons any operations connected with the repair, modification, maintenance or servicing of any work equipment that is likely to involve a specific risk to health or safety.

Whether or not any such designated persons are authorised users, the employer must ensure that each designated person has received adequate training related to any operations in respect of which he or she has been designated.

Equipment Subject to Restrictions

When assessing health and safety risks of work equipment to determine those items likely to involve a specific risk to health or safety, the employer must consider:

  • the risks to the person using the item or carrying out other operations on it;
  • the risks to other people (eg. fellow employees, visiting workers, visiting customers, neighbours, passers-by, etc.) in or near the workplace at which the item will be used.
