Mental Health & Stress Policy

EMP.RE.03.09

This Mental Health and Stress Policy is designed to enable employers to comply with their legal obligations to provide employees with a safe and healthy workplace, and in doing so create a happier and more productive workforce. Employers should note that they have a legal obligation to take work related stress and mental health seriously, and that the Health and Safety Executive have the power to take action against those who refuse to do so.

This Mental Health and Stress Policy has been updated to take account of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The GDPR requires employers to comply with principles for processing personal data, including unauthorised access to personal data. This policy references the Company’s Data Protection Policy.

Work related stress is increasingly being recognised as something that can be identified and dealt with before it becomes an issue that affects an individual’s productivity or capacity to work. This policy for dealing with workplace-related stress will, if followed, help ensure that employers comply with their legal obligations and reassure employees that the Company will be sympathetic towards any mental health or stress related difficulties that they may encounter.

ACAS has produced helpful guidance on mental health issues in the workplace and reasonable adjustments that could be made to support workers with mental health issues.  Further details can be found here.

This policy contains the following sections:

1. Introduction
2. Aims of the Policy
3. Stress and its Recognition
4. Principles

This Mental Health and Stress Policy is in open format. Either enter the requisite details in the highlighted fields or adjust the wording to suit your purposes.
