Dismissal at End of Probationary Period Letter

EMP.PP.10

This Dismissal at End of Probationary Period Letter is for use by the employer when the employee is being dismissed at the end of the employee’s Probationary Period in the employee’s Contract of Employment.

It reminds the employee that the contract of employment states that employment is subject to satisfactory completion of a probationary period. It then states that the employer has monitored the employee’s performance and conduct during the probationary period and has decided to terminate the employee’s contract. The reasons for this decision are listed.

The employee is given the right to appeal against the decision to terminate employment.

In reaching the decision to dismiss the employee, employers should remember that, although unfair dismissal rights apply after two year’s service, a discrimination claim can be made before then.
